چکیده
Observations have been made in 17 normotensive subjects selected from the wards of the Third (New York University) Medical Division of Bellevue Hospital. Included in this report are observations made on 4 additional subjects reported in a previous communication (2). The total group comprises 19 female and 2 male subjects between the ages of 20 and 68 years. All subjects were maintained on the regular hospital diet. Fluids were withheld for 15 hours and the test was performed in the morning on the fasting patients. After local anesthesia with 2 per cent metycaine, cystoscopy and ureteral catheterization were performed, employing Pederson multi-eyed ureteral catheters inserted to a distance of 12 to 16 cm. Large diameter catheters (no. 8 through no. 6 Fr.) were utilized to minimize leakage.1 A soft rubber catheter was placed in the bladder to detect leakage around the ureteral catheters. In none of the observations reported here did measurable leakage occur. If leakage does occur, analysis of bladder urine permits partition between the right and left kidneys if the concentrations of the test substances are

The effect of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells on renal function and histopathology in a rat model of ischemia-reperfusion induced acute kidney injury
Objective(s): It has been shown that adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSC) have protective effects in acute kidney injury (AKI). This study was conducted to assess the therapeutic effects of AD-MSC in rats subjected to acute kidney injury by 45 min of renal ischemia followed by 48 hr of reperfusion (I/R). Materials and Methods:...
متن کاملThe effects of cortisone and hydrocortisone on water diuresis and renal function in man.
The deficient diuretic response to water which is characteristic of patients with adrenal insufficiency can be rapidly corrected by the administration of cortisone (1-3). The mechanism of the defective diuresis and the precise nature of the response to hormonal replacement have not been established. A number of observations, chiefly in experimental animals, have suggested that administration of...
متن کاملRenal response to pyrogen in normotensive and hypertensive man.
SUMMARY Pyrogen, when administered intravenously to normotensive and hypertensive men, produced initially vasoconstriction and subsequently marked renal vasodilatation, both resulting from direct effects on the renal vasculature. The absolute renal plasma flow, both during control observations and at the height of renal hyperemia, was greater in normotensives, but the percentage change was grea...
متن کاملAqueous extract of Berberis integerrima root improves renal dysfunction in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats
Objective: Barberry root extract contains various alkaloids that are considered as antioxidants. Beneficial effect of aqueous extract of Berberis integerrima root (AEBIR) was evaluated for renal function in diabetic rats induced by STZ. Material and Methods: Diabetes was induced by i.p. injection of streptozotocin (65 mg/kg bw) to rats, after 15 h of fasting. Diabetic rats were randomly grouped...
متن کاملEffects of acute increases in the excretion of solute and water on renal acid excretion in man.
It is well established that renal acid excretion can be influenced by certain tubular mechanisms that operate independently of systemic acid-base equilibrium. Thus, the stimulus for sodium reabsorption (1, 2), the competition between potassium and hydrogen ions for secretion (3), and the penetrating ability of anions present in the glomerular filtrate (4-6) are factors known to affect acid excr...
